One of the joys of Making is that it can be a quiet time of reflection and personal meditation. It can also be an absolute riot amongst a group of friends, new and old, sharing stories, tips, hacks and long buried memories.

Making alone is often the only way to make- especially if whatever you are making requires equipment. And let’s be honest here, us Makers, we love our gear and instant access to our stash (others may call it a hoard, whatever, it’s a stash)

​

But…

​

Making in community is a lot more fun and that’s why I created the Valkyrie Fiber Coven.  Here’s what I didn’t want:

​

I didn’t want yet another sign up, newsletter or blog that blows up our inbox of emails Trojan Horsing as ‘community’ but is really just another way to get you to buy shit ‘on sale’.​

​

Here’s what I did want:

​

A virtual space where people from all over the world can meet up and Make together. I wanted to create portals for all the different tribes of Makers to find one another and hang.   

​

And yes mayyyybee buy some of my yarn or something from someone else’s small business under my Valkyrie Craft banner. But only cool stuff. Curated and designed to make you a better Maker with options. Who doesn’t love options?

​

I’m not doing this for the money. 

​

I might be doing this to create a world wide crafting empire but that’s later. Probably.

​

Here’s the thing about Making- we all Make different things but the common thread is that we want to create something from an idea or string or a wheel or a paintbrush. We’re the same kind of people who are interesting in Making what speaks to us.

Many, many things speak to me (and maybe you too.)

​

Like all covens there will be a sorting hat.

​

JK- that’s not how covens work, but I am VERY proud of that pun.

​

No. There is the main coven- but then there are niches within the coven. I don’t for example make candles but, you might. And you might want to hang out with someone on the other side of the world who also makes candles. 

There will be virtual and in person meetups for all Valkyries but, my hope is that you will find someone within the coven that does what you do and likes what you like and those niche Valkyrie meet-ups are going to be a game changer- that’s the goal.

It will take some time and I will need your help. I can knit a sweater alone, but I cannot do this by myself. If you want to be in community and part of something, you have to raise your hand and be proactive about stepping into that community. I cannot do that for you because despite this whole thing being called the Valkyrie Coven- I am not actually a celestial being which also means I am not magic. I can’t put you in the perfect space. You have to find it- which will make it all the more fun and meaningful.
